Re: Small electric shock on grounded metallic appliances
5.4 Volts - not to bad. But the mains surprised me! 232.6 Volts. This is the 1st time I've tested it since they upgraded most of the power lines throughout the village from 25sq mm to 50sq mm, 2 months ago, was just on 220 prior to that. We are located about 300 meters from our transformer which is ...

Re: Small electric shock on grounded metallic appliances
Hummm, at the transformer, neutral and earth are at the same potential, but not true anymore at the end of the line, that is what I measure at my bonding point. MEN means it should have many bonding neutral with earth along the path. Is that correct ? Yes, most all Thai dwellings don't have an eart...

Re: Small electric shock on grounded metallic appliances
A somewhat disturbing syntax :D , does this mean that the midpoint resulting from the imbalanced 3 phases is no longer in the center, floating above the physical midpoint? If the phase loads are not roughly balanced along the 220 volt transmission lines and without the MEN system the Neutral can fl...

Re: Small electric shock on grounded metallic appliances
Make sure the bonding at the Earth stake is 100% secure, 23 volts wet is not acceptable and 2.5 amps indicates there is a very high phase imbalance in the network with the neutral floating way above the neutral at the transformer star point. In my case it turned out to be a faulty transformer which ...

Re: Small electric shock on grounded metallic appliances
OK a few readings from within your consumer box (boxes):- Voltage Active - Neutral Active - Earth Bar Neutral - Earth Bar (As your drawing indicates these is bonded it should be zero) Was the step down transformer installed by the PEA? The star point (Neutral) should have been securely bonded to Ear...

Re: Car prices Thailand
Thailand car manufacturing and assembly has changed radically in the past 22 years. In 1984, my mate's new Holden Calais cost about a million baht. Eight years ago, he bought a new Suzuki Swift for 380,000 baht. How can you compare a Holden Calais (top of the Holden range, normally V8 powered) with...

Re: Car prices Thailand
From my experience NEW car prices in Thailand are inflated:- In 2002 I bought a new Isuzu DMax, Extended Cab, 3.0 Turbo, Automatic (still going fine!) 663000 Baht = AUD$27,200 cash at the time. Long story but on a subsequent trip to Australia I went into a GMH dealership to buy a owners handbook in ...

Re: General Prawit's Watches
The retired minister for "watches and all things corrupt" will remain above the law and hopefully never be seen "awake" in public again. What an embarrasment he is to Thai history.

Re: HEAT STROKE
When can we expect this so-called rainy season to arrive? Khon Kaen has barely had any rain in the past six months. Traditionally the wet season (monsoon) starts mid June when we had the "now banned" rocket/parade festival. It's usually on time. I have only had 3 recordable rain events since 10th O...

Can someone tell me what they do with an iguanal (groin) hernia these days here in Thailand? Been reading about a synthetic gause they use to patch the stomach wall but there have been problems if it moves.
Dean, can you tell us which clinic you are using?

Re: Proof of Address letters
The letter is supposed to be free (or was) but I paid 200Baht last year. Takes about 15 minutes and time of day is typically "luck of the drawer". I doubt you will get one in English, probably need to get it professionally translated. I take Mrs Dero with her blue book and ID and I just use my passp...

I just goto the Imm office or BKK departures armed with a prefilled TM xx form (forgot number for Re-entry) on which I attach a photo in the relevant box. Nothing hard about it!!!!

Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
I suspect the Captain tried everything but was unable to do a damn thing, sort of like a slow motion film . And I believe there was at least one harbor pilot on board. Further to my post above re pylon engineering:- The bridge rests on four supports, two of which sit each side of the navigable wate...

Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
A container ship loses propulsion and steering while leaving port on a falling tide (current from astern) and allides with a bridge pier causing the bridge to collapse, and it's Biden's fault? I hope you're voting for RFK. I'm thinking they are referring to a comment the original design engineer ma...
